Koperniak Homers, Drives in Three as Redbirds Celebrate 901 Day

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game homestand with a 6-4 extra-inning loss to the Gwinnett Stripers at AutoZone Park on Friday night.

Right fielder Matt Koperniak started the show with a two-run home run in the first inning, his 11th homer run of the season. The left-handed hitter then tied the game in the seventh inning with a two-out single. Koperniak finished the night 2-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI.

Designated hitter Moises Gomez and centerfielder Juniel Querecuto also recorded multi-hit nights. Querecuto finished 2-for-5 with an RBI while Gomez went 2-for-5 with a run scored. As a team, the Redbirds stranded 11 runners on base and went 4-for-12 with RISP.

Starting pitcher Connor Thomas allowed four runs on six hits, walked two and struck out a season-high-tying six batters in 3.2 innings. The bullpen did not allow a run until the runner placed on second base to start the 10th inning came in to score with one out.

The Redbirds (63-67) return to AutoZone Park on Saturday, Sept. 2 to continue a six-game homestand at 6:35p.m. CDT against the Gwinnett Stripers.
