Johnson Named to Post-Season All-Star Team

Geneva, IL (August 25, 2006) "" The Midwest League announced its post-season All-Star team on Thursday and for the first time since 1997 it included a Burlington Bees player as Josh Johnson was named as the top second baseman as voted by the league's 14 managers. The last Bees player to be selected to the post-season All-Star team was outfielder Brady Clark, currently of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Johnson, who was the starting second baseman for the Western Division in the All-Star Game at mid-season, is leading the league with 86 walks, 18 sacrifice bunts, and a .404 on-base percentage while batting .254 with three home runs, 38 RBI, and 55 runs scored in 102 games. His 18 sacrifice bunts are also a new Bees' franchise record, shattering the old mark of 13. In addition to being the top table-setter in the league on offense, Johnson has led all Midwest League second baseman in fielding percentage for most of the season. Johnson is the first Bees second baseman to be selected as a post-season All-Star since Fletcher Thompson in 1991 and just the fourth overall also joining: Rick Casarotti (1988) and Sammy Lovelace (1969).

Johnson and the Bees have just four home games left this season with the next coming up on Saturday night against the Kane County Cougars at 7:00. Luke Hochevar, the number one overall pick in the 2006 draft, will be making his third start for the Bees on Saturday on a Long John Silver's/A&W Family Night and Iowa vs. Iowa State Rivalry Night. The gates open at 6:00.
