Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs fell in the series finale of a brief two-game series to the Swing of the Quad Cities 7-1 in front of 5,875 fans Friday night at O'Brien Field.
The Swing took their first lead of the series in the first. Jon Jay doubled and Casey Rowlett came in to score on a RBI single by Bryan Anderson to make it a 2-0 score.
Quad Cities added to their lead in the fourth by taking advantage of a Chiefs defensive miscue. With one out and runners on first and second, Chad Gabriel tapped one to first. Ryan Norwood gloved it and tried to get the force out at second base. However, his throw sailed into left field and a run scored. Rowlett singled with two away to plate another run and give the Swing a 4-0 lead.
Quad Cities tacked on one more in the fifth on a solo homer by Anderson. In the eighth, they made it 7-0 on a double by Rowlett to score Shane Robinson and a Jay RBI single that brought home Rowlett. The Chiefs got their only run in the eighth on a Robinson Chirinos homer, a long towering fly ball over the lawn in left.
Todd Blackford suffered the loss. He went five innings and gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits. Roger Evenson continued his impressive work as of late out of the pen. He fired two scoreless innings and turned it over to Jesus Yepez, who tossed the last two frames and gave up two runs. Quad Cities starter Trey Hearne went eight innings and allowed just the one run on the home run by Chirinos.
