Charlotte Knights News Release
(Buffalo, NY) - Charlotte Knights slugger Dan Johnson came in second place in the 2012 Triple-A Home Run Derby on Monday from Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, NY. Johnson, who ended the first half of the season with 21 home runs, finished behind Buffalo's Valentino Pascucci, who won the contest in front of his home crowd.
Johnson hit one home run in the first round and finished in a three-way tie. In the tie-breaking swing-off round, Johnson slugged two home runs to move on to round two, where he flourished.
In round two, Johnson launched 13 home runs to advance to the finals against Pascucci. Charlotte's prolific slugger, who hit .276 with 21 home runs and 62 RBIs in the first half of the season, then hit five home runs in the final round, but Pascucci hit just enough to win.
In 2010, as a member of the Durham Bulls, Johnson won the Triple-A Home Run Derby held at Coca-Cola Park in Lehigh Valley. New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski won the Celebrity Home Run Derby on Monday.
