Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
PITTSBURGH, January 18, 2008 - The Continental Basketball Association is pleased to announce that John DeGroat of the Pittsburgh Xplosion has been named American Conference Player of the Week for the week ending January 13, 2008.
DeGroat is the first player to hold the award for two consecutive weeks since Desmond Ferguson, then of the Minot Skyrockets, won two in a row in the 2006-07 season.
DeGroat, a 6-foot-6 forward from the University of Pittsburgh, helped lead the Xplosion to a six-game win streak. His efforts included 25 points in the first of two victories over Great Falls in Pittsburgh. In Rio Grande Valley, DeGroat scored 20 points, including 10-for-10 from the foul line in a win Friday night and a 31-point, 17-board tally in a rematch victory over the Silverados.
DeGroat will participate in the All-Star Classic Tuesday night in Yakima along with Xplosion center John Strickland.
