Miners to face RGV in two-game series before break

PIKEVILLE, KY. - The East Kentucky Miners will visit McAllen, Texas, Friday, Jan. 18-Saturday, Jan. 19 for a two-game series versus the Rio Grande Valley Silverados. East Kentucky is set to make its first ever appearance in the McAllen Convention Center. The Miners and Silverados are both first-year CBA expansion teams.

East Kentucky owns a 2-0 career record versus Rio Grande Valley. Each team will be in competition for the final time prior to the CBA All-Star Classic. This year's CBA All-Star Classic is set for Jan. 22 in Yakima, Wash., home of the Yakama Sun Kings.

The Miners (14-13) defeated Rio Grande Valley 114-90 on Jan. 9 when the two teams met in the East Kentucky Expo Center. East Kentucky also took the first-ever game played between the two expansion squads, defeating the Silverados 119-116 in a game held Nov. 26, 2007.

The Miners lead the CBA in scoring. East Kentucky is averaging a CBA-best 107.6 points per game.

Josh Pace currently leads East Kentucky in scoring. Pace is averaging a team-high 23.2 points per game. Boo Jackson is averaging 20.6 points per game for East Kentucky.

The Miners are riding a two-game winning streak into the Rio Grande Valley series. East Kentucky is 3-2 in its last five games.

"Going on the road to Texas and defeating Rio Grande Valley in two games before the All-Star break would be huge for our basketball team," said East Kentucky Coach Kevin Keathley.

A rejuvenated Rio Grande Valley team defeated Atlanta 121-80 Tuesday, Jan. 15. The Silverados are 4-23.

Tip-off for each of the East Kentucky-Rio Grande Valley games is set for 7:35 p.m.
