Anderson Joes News Release
One night after the Joes turned in a Dr. Jekyllian performance, Anderson turned back to Mr. Hyde on defense and on the mound Saturday, committing three errors and allowing 12 hits in an 8-4 loss to the Charlotte County Redfish in front of 2,302 at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
On Pink in the Park Night -- when the Joes raised more than $1,400 in auctioned pink, game-worn jerseys to benefit breast cancer research at the Cancer Association of Anderson -- Anderson (6-20) looked early to send their fans home with a win in addition to all the proceeds risen. After Charlotte County (6-20) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, Anderson promptly answered with a Heath Keel two-run home run in the bottom half of the frame. For Keel, it marked his sixth homer of the year, cementing his team lead and tying him for third place in the league.
Keel later helped the Joes take their first lead of the game, when he walked with the bases loaded in the fourth inning to put Anderson up 3-2.
Charlotte County answered in the fifth, though, when P.J. Lehmann led off and reached on a Kevin Noles error. The next batter, Jeremy McCann, would triple Lehmann home before coming across to score himself in the next at-bat. In a back-and-forth contest, the Joes tied the game at 4-4 when reliever Henry Martinez singled home Normando Linero.
Martinez's glory, however, would be short-lived, as he proceed to allow four runs in the next two innings to cement the game for the Redfish. Only one of Martinez's runs were earned, which was the story of the night for the Joes. Due to the three errors, two by Noles and one by Jake Wheeler, Anderson allowed four unearned runs of the total eight scored by Charlotte County.
Martinez took the loss, dropping to 0-2 on the season. Yanier Manso earned his first win for the 'Fish, pitching in relief and improving to 1-1.
Keel finished as the Joes top offensive performer, going 1-for-3 with the home run, one run and three RBI.
After a day off tomorrow, Anderson heads to Macon to face the Music on Monday night.
"Tomorrow's gonna be a great day for us," Keel said. "We're gonna try to regroup and reload and we'll hit the road to take on them Monday. ...We're gonna try everything we can to play smart baseball and look for a win every day we go out there."
