Peanuts take series from Macon

June 16, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, were victorious in the finale of the second installment of the "Peach Series", presented by Fairchild Roofing, as they defeated the Macon Music 4-2. This was South Georgia's second consecutive victory and their second consecutive series victory. Steve Garrabrants, Jon Zeringue and Brandon Woolard all homered in the game providing most of the run support for Dustin Taylor who got the victory.

The scoring began in the bottom of the 1st inning when Steve Garrabrants connected on his 5th homerun over the left field wall on Macon starting pitcher Vern Sterry to take the early lead and they would not look back. Jon Zeringue then stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 4th inning with 2 outs and took Sterry deep again over the left field wall for his 3rd homerun of the season.

South Georgia would score again in the 6th as Steve Garrabrants reached on a 2 out walk, stole second and scored on a single by clean-up hitter, Doc Brooks. The homerun bug would hit Brandon Woolard in the 7th as he led off the inning with a blast to right field.

Starting pitcher Dustin Taylor kept the Macon hitters at bay all night. Taylor scattered seven hits during his time on the mound while not allowing a run and getting out of a couple jams where Macon had runners in scoring position five times but could not put a run on the board.

Mike Colacchio would come in to pitch the 8th inning and Macon took advantage of someone other than Dustin Taylor on the mound as Colacchio allowed 2 runs on a RBI single by Felipe Del Rosario. Colacchio would be lifted after going two-thirds of an inning for new Peanut pitcher Drew Shetrone. Shetrone would get the final four outs, three of them strikeouts while earning his first save as a South Georgia Peanut. South Georgia improves to 17-8 on the year while Dustin Taylor improved his record to 3-1.

The Peanuts have an off-day Sunday before they welcome in the Bradenton Juice for a three game series at Paul Eames Sports Complex. Dumas Garcia is set to get the start for South Georgia. First pitch is at 7:10. The game can be heard on "1450 The Fan" and worldwide at www.southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
