Anderson Joes News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Joes looked scared to swing the bats early in their Friday the 13th game against the Charlotte County Redfish, but Anderson finally broke through for all its runs in the last three innings Friday, beating the 'Fish, 6-2.

Brandon Carter and Heath Keel destroyed Charlotte County pitching, combining to go 7-for-10 with two doubles and four triples on the night. Carter's two triples and two doubles helped him score two runs, while Keel's triple in the eighth allowed him to score Anderson's first go-ahead run. His two-run triple in the ninth inning helped blow the game open.

After going scoreless for six innings, the Joes chipped away with a run in each of the seventh and eighth innings before bursting open for four runs in the ninth. In a 2-2 game, Carter led off with a double. After an intentional walk to Tanner Rogers, Richard Quihuis-Bell and Kevin Noles hit back-to-back RBI singles before Keel's bases-clearing hit put the exclamation point on the inning.

Anderson received another stellar starting effort from Jan Granado, who sustained a slight left pectoral injury in the first inning but worked through it. Granado finished with the no-decision, but lasted six innings and struck out 10, allowing just four hits, three walks and one run.

The Joes bullpen combined for three innings of one-hit, one-run baseball, setting the stage for Anderson's (1-4, 14-36 overall) bats to steal the show in the later innings. Charlotte County (2-3, 14-36) received a solo home run from Jason Hurst, his second in two nights, but the offense was not there for the Redfish.

Austin Redwine took the win for Anderson, improving to 1-0. Justin Ottman suffered the loss for Charlotte County, dropping to 1-3.

With the win, the Joes improved to 6-4 on Fridays, the day of the week in which they've won the most games. They also snapped a four-game losing streak to start the second half of the season and, in the meantime, evened the season series with Charlotte County at four games each.

Saturday, the teams meet for game three of the series. Probable starters are Daniel Howard for the Joes and Celson Polanco for the 'Fish.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
