Joes Pound Juice, 11-3

August 20, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Anderson Joes News Release

After a few tough-luck outs on well-hit balls Sunday, the Joes offense made sure it found plenty of empty space in its win Monday, beating the Bradenton Juice, 11-3, in front of 599 at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

Chris Demons shone as the star of stars, going 3-4 with a home run, triple, three runs, three RBI and two stolen bases.

The Joes totaled 16 hits, tied for their second-highest total of the season, in the victory, scoring 10 of the 11 runs in the fifth inning or later.

Anderson (20-18, 33-50 overall) saw everyone in its starting lineup get at least one hit, including Demons' smashing night and starting pitcher Blake Gailen's 2-3 effort, in which he hit a home run of his own while scoring twice and driving in two.

The game was a low-scoring affair for the first half, with the teams knotted 1-1 going into the top of the fifth. The Joes then scored three runs, with the Juice answering with two of their own in the bottom of the sixth.

Three runs in the seventh and a knockout-punch four runs in the eighth were enough for Anderson, though, as Bradenton (20-17, 44-37) could not keep up with the Joes' bats.

Gailen improved to 2-1 with the win, pitching seven innings while allowing three runs on four hits, walking none and striking out four. Rocky Collis dropped to 3-8 in the loss. In his last two starts against Anderson, Collis has now allowed 13 runs in seven innings.

With the win, the Joes position themselves for a chance at another series victory Tuesday. Anderson has won seven of its nine series under manager Kash Beauchamp and will look for eight out of 10 with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
