Anderson Joes News Release

The Anderson Joes succeeded in two "firsts" against the Charlotte County Redfish on Saturday: Anderson won back-to-back games for the first time this year and also won their first series of the season. The Joes beat the Redfish, 5-3, behind another stellar pitching performance from starter Jean Granados.

Anderson (5-15) got off to a smashing start offensively, as Brandon Carter and Heath Keel hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the game and give Anderson an early 2-0 lead. The home run was Carter's first of the year; for Keel it marked a team-high number four. Charlotte County (4-16) would respond with two runs on three hits of their own in the bottom of the first, though, to tie the game up.

The Joes would never surrender the lead, however, retaking it in the second when Normando Linero scored from third on a balk by Redfish starter Reynaldo Correal. Charlotte County tied the game in the bottom of the third, but Granados would drive in Jeury Espinal in the fourth inning for a run before Billy Hogan hit his third home run of the year in the fifth for added insurance.

Anderson didn't need many runs because Granados pitched another quality effort, going seven complete innings, striking out a Joes season-high 10 and allowing seven hits, three runs and one walk. With the win, Granados became the first Joes pitcher to earn two victories on the year, improving to 2-1. Correal dropped to 0-3 with the loss. Will Krout earned his first save of the year, retiring the Redfish in the ninth inning.

With consecutive wins in tow for the first time all year, Anderson heads back home to start a three-game series with the Bradenton Juice on Sunday night. In their last series, Bradenton took two-of-three from Anderson earlier in the week. The teams start with first pitch at 6:05.
