Anderson Joes News Release

AIKEN -- Powered by 10 total hits and driven by Giuseppe Rivas' coming-out party, the Joes beat the Aiken Foxhounds, 9-6, ending a six-game losing streak and beating their in-state rivals for the first time since May 18 in front of 1,569 at Roberto Hernandez Stadium on Saturday.

Rivas went 3-for-5 with a run and four RBI, including his first home run of the year. After starting his Joes career off 2-for-17, Rivas exploded Saturday, falling just a triple short of the cycle. For the Joes, it was their second-highest offensive output of the year, surpassed only by the 10 runs they scored in a loss on May 24 in the same stadium.

The runs counted for a win this time, though, as Anderson (7-25) also received a stellar effort from Ronald Ball, who made his first start of the year for the Joes. Ball pitched six innings, allowing four hits, one run, walking three and striking out four. He improved to 1-0 with the win.

Other notable offensive performances for Anderson included Brandon Carter, who reached base three times with two hits and scored twice, Billy Hogan scoring twice, Kevin Noles driving in two runs and catcher Brandon Davis hitting his first home run of the season, a solo shot that followed Rivas' in the seventh inning for Joes insurance. It marked the second time this year Anderson has hit back-to-back home runs, both times on the road.

Aiken (19-13) countered with home runs from Ben Bando and Kelly Hunt, scoring five of their six runs in the final three innings. However, the rally wasn't enough, as Aiken fell for the first time in four games.

Brian Grijalva took the loss for the Foxhounds, allowing six runs and five hits in four innings to drop to 1-1 on the year. No save was recorded.

The Palmetto Series Presented by Fairchild Roofing now stands at 7-2 in favor of Aiken, with the two teams meeting next on Thursday in Anderson.

The Joes are off Sunday before hosting the South Georgia Peanuts for a three-game series. South Georgia enters as the first-place team in the South Coast League, while Anderson comes in with the momentum of snapping the losing streak. First pitch on Monday is slated for 7:05 p.m.
