MILWAUKEE, WI (January 3, 2007) - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced that Milwaukee Wave defender Joe Hammes has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending Sunday, December 31st. With Hammes' 2nd award this month, Milwaukee Wave players have generated five MISL Player of the Week honors in the nine weeks of regular play of the 2006-07 season.

In addition to his second Defensive Player of the Week honor, the Cedarburg, WI native achieved a second multiple goal game. Hammes marked a total of 12 points in the MISL's Puma Points Leaders. Defensively, Hammes has acquired nine blocks in the 10 games he has played in the 2006-07 season. With only a third of the 2006-07 season in the books, Hammes has doubled his points and surpassed his total blocks over 2005-06.

"Joe has been playing well all season". "After four years of playing in the league, he is beginning to come into his own," said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Keith Tozer.

The 2006-07 season is Hammes' fourth in the MISL and with Milwaukee. He was acquired by the Wave in the 2003 MISL Amateur Draft (eighth overall). Since joining the Wave he has played in over 100 games with over 30 career points and 70 blocks.

The MISL also named their Goalkeeper and Offensive Players of the Week. The Philadelphia KiXX's Don D'Ambra was named Offensive Player of the Week and Peter Pappas was named Goalkeeper of the Week. After this past weekend, the KiXX notched the first place spot in the league.

The Wave will face the KiXX in Philadelphia on Saturday, January 6 at 6:05 p.m. CST. The Wave will then return home on Sunday, January 7 at 1:05pm CST to challenge the California Cougars. All Wave games are broadcast on WISN, AM 1130 and can be heard via webcast at www.milwaukeewave.com. Tickets for all Wave home games ($14, $16, and $20) can be purchased by calling 414-224-WAVE.
