December 17, 2004 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Stuffed animals are usually relegated to spending time on children's beds, but in a few days, they will have a chance to fly. And its all for a good cause.
The Fargo-Moorhead Jets will hold their first-ever "Air the Bear" Teddy Bear Toss during their game Friday, December 17 against the Minnesota Blizzard at 7 p.m. at the Carlson Coliseum. After the Jets score their first goal of the game, fans will be invited to throw the stuffed animals they bring, on to the ice.
The bears will be collected and distributed to one of three local organizations. Jets management will bring the stuffed animals to the; Rape and Abuse Center, MeritCare Children's Hospital unit and the local chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
"We didn't want to just have one local organization benefit, we instead wanted to branch out to many in the spirit of the holidays" said director of game operations Steve Strashiem. "This is just part of our overall mission of giving back to the community."
Teddy Bear Toss promotions have been done with success in many other junior and minor league cities throughout North America, and is a very popular promotion.
