Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
The North American Hockey League announced today that its Board of Governors has accepted the Fargo-Moorhead Jets' request for dormancy.
"The Jets have provided tremendous developmental opportunities for a number of our student-athletes over the years and we're sorry to see them cease operations," said NAHL commissioner Mark Frankenfeld. "However, with six teams, our Central Division footprint remains as strong as ever."
"We worked very hard on a solution for the Jets to relocate for the 2008-09 season and the NAHL has been very supportive, but in the end we couldn't find the right spot to relocate at this time," said Jets owner Todd Norman.
All players on the Jets' roster/protected list have been declared open players and will not be eligible for selection during Wednesday's NAHL Entry Draft.
"The NAHL feels that the Jets' players deserve a choice as to where they'll play next season, and since the tender period is over, it only makes sense to allow them 'free-agent' status within the league," said Frankenfeld.
The Jets have been members of the NAHL since the 2003-04 season. The organization won two regular-season division titles in 2004-05 and 2006-07.
The oldest and largest junior league in the United States, the North American Hockey League, a USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier II Junior A league boasting 19 teams from across the country, including the esteemed USA Hockey National Team Development Program, prides itself on the social maturity and skill development of student-athletes ages 16-20 with aspirations of advancing to collegiate and/or professional hockey.
