Jets finally come home after downing Bobcats
October 8, 2004 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Andy Stricker (Mountain Lake Terrace, Washington) made 34 saves in his first appearance in goal this season as the Fargo-Moorhead Jets defeated the Bismarck Bobcats 4-1 on Saturday night October 2.
Dain Prewitt (Westminster, Colorado) had a goal and an assist to pace the Jets offensively.
"We played very well in the second period, one of our best yet," said Jets' head coach Todd Knott. "It was good to see the guys battle tonight, considering many have still been fighting off colds for a few days."
The win completes an odd start to the 2004-05 NAHL schedule for the FM Jets. The Jets â who now come home for five games â started the season with three consecutive Saturday night games at Bismarck.
The Jets came out of the odd series with five out of a possible six points.
Fargo-Moorhead plays its first home games of the season this weekend. On Friday October 8, the Jets host Bismarck at 7 p.m. The first 300 fans will receive a copy of the team's official media guide, sponsored by Bennigans. Then, on Saturday October 9, the Jets face Minnesota at 7:05 p.m. The first 200 kids 12 and under will get a Jets' photo booklet.
Despite being out shot 35-23 on Saturday, the Jets controlled play against a frustrated Bismarck team. When the Bobcats would mount offensive pressure, Stricker came through with a few spectacular saves.
Midway through the first period, with no score, Stricker dove across the goalmouth to rob Joey Eichstadt of what appeared to be a sure goal after a scramble in front of the net.
Stricker also made clutch saves late in the third period as the Bobcats attempted to stage a comeback.
Trevor Bruess (Minneapolis, Minnesota) gave the Jets a 1-0 lead at 12:12 of the first period.
Prewitt added to the lead with a blue collar type goal 9:00 into the second period. Prewitt shook off a defender in the left circle, muscled his way into the slot, and lifted a snap shot over the left shoulder of Bismarck goalie Brady Homan.
Prewitt then assisted on Ryan Cramer's (Rio Rancho, NM) later in the period to make it 3-0.
Casey Dynan scored for Bismarck early in the third period, but a power play empty net goal by Chris Myhro (Eden Prairie, MN) late in the goal iced the victory for the Jets.
At Home...Finally!: Fargo-Moorhead fans will see plenty of the Jets beginning October 8 as the Jets start a five game home stand. After a trip to Blaine, Minnesota for the NAHL Showcase, the Jets finish the month with another home game.
All in the Family: Current Jet Joe Schuster (Grand Rapids, Minnesota) has a family tie to the Fargo-Moorhead junior hockey history. Joe's brother Brian played 39 games with the Ice Sharks during the 1999-2000. Brian scored 18 goals, 16 assists and had 61 penalty minutes.
Former Jets in College: Jeff Fearing (West Point), Mark Agnew (Quinnipiac), Josh Schaefer (Air Force) and Wade Harstad (Wisconsin, Steven's Point) will all be playing college hockey starting this fall.
Group Packages Available Any groups interested in coming to a Jets' game should contact the office at (702) 235-2354.
