
Blizzard plows way to second straight win

A four-goal second period helped propel the Minnesota Blizzard to a 6-3 win at Bismarck Friday night, October 1.
After a scoreless first period, the Blizzard lit the lamp with two goals in the first 44 seconds of the middle period. Paul Henderson (Menomonie, Wisconsin) scored 24 seconds after intermission, with teammate Jake Nelson (Superior, Wisconsin) giving the Blizzard a 2-0 lead, just 20 seconds later.
Nelson would add another goal on the power play later in the second period. Alexandria, Minnesota native Andrew Olson scored the first of his two goals late in the stanza, to pad Minnesota's lead to 4-1. Olson, along with another player with Alexandria connections, Shawn Bitzan, tallied third period goals for the Blizzard. Ryan Hawkins (Eden Prairie, Minnesota) assisted on four of the six Minnesota goals.
In the nets, Marcus Paulson (Eden Prairie, Minnesota) stopped 46 Bismarck shots, to earn his second win. The victory evens the Blizzard record at 2-2-0 on the season.
The Blizzard has one game this coming weekend, against the Fargo-Moorhead Jets, at the John E. Carlson Coliseum in Fargo. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Saturday night, October 9.
After a road trip to Bismarck on October 15, the Blizzard will have its home opener on Saturday, October 16. Helena will provide the opposition at 7:00 p.m. The following day, October 17, the Blizzard will host Bismarck in a 5:00 p.m. game at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria. Minnesota will play 25 home games at the Runestone Center, with one home game scheduled for November 6, at the Fergus Falls Fairgrounds Arena.
