Spirit defeat Marshals after losing in OT

The Spirit started the first period being down 1-0, but answered back with three goals. Scoring the first of those three goals was Matt Staehely, with the assist to newcomer Jake Roadhouse. The second goal was scored by Taylor Guay with assists to Derek Kitti and Jeremiah Crowe. Staehely the scored unassisted, his second on the night and third goal of the season, ending the first period with the Sprit leading the Marshals 3-1.

Crowe started the scoring in second period, followed by Ben Boulay and Andy Sternberg, giving the Sprit a 6-3 lead heading into the third period.

One minute into the third period, Roadhouse scored his first ever Junior A goal to give his team a 7-3 lead and help seal the Spirit win over the Marshals.

The Sprit socked away three out of the four points this weekend after getting a point in a shootout loss to the Marshals a night earlier.

It was another great Friday night effort and a second consecutive Friday night OT loss.

Boulay scored the first goal for the Spirit to tie the contest at 1-1, was with assists to Roadhouse and Sean Erickson.

The second goal was scored midway through the second period to tie the contest again, this time at 2-2. Newcomer Patrick Maino tallied with assists to Eric Dahl and Chris Protenic.

Goaltender Shaun Williams form Erie, Pennsylvania, stopped 28 of 30 shots and seven out of nine breakaways in the OT shootout.

Catch the Spirit back in action on Friday night at Jordan Valley Ice Park against the Wichita Falls Wildcats. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
