Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Lancaster, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino were one out away from improving to 53-0 when leading after eight innings in 2018...instead they fell to 52-1 as the Lancaster JetHawks downed the 66ers 6-5 in ten innings on Tuesday. Inland Empire (59-56, 26-19) had the JetHawks down to their final out with a 3-1 Sixers lead but stayed alive and then trailed 5-4 with two outs in the tenth but Manny Melendez delivered a bases loaded game winning two-run single to stun the 66ers.

Inland Empire scored twice in the second when Jonah Todd tripled and then scored on Richie Fecteau's RBI single off Lancaster (61-54, 28-17) starter Brandon Gold. Fecteau scored on Zane Gurwitz RBI double to left. The JetHawks scored a run in the fourth against 66ers starter Adrian De Horta as the righty allowed just the one run in five frames surrendering two hits, two walks and fanning eight. David MacKinnon homered for the Sixers in the sixth to make it 3-1. It was MacKinnons fourth of the season and his third in his last four games; he also added a double. The game remained 3-1 until, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Kaelin (0-2) allowed four straight hits including the game-tying single to Carlos Herrera on the heals of Melendez' RBI triple. With two outs in the top of the tenth however, Julian Leon delivered a two-run double against southpaw Ben Bowden (4-2) to left giving the Sixers a 5-3 advantage. In the home half however with runners a first and third Bret Boswell's sac fly made it 5-4 with a runner at first and two outs. The next two batters walked to load the bases against Kaelin. Melendez then ripped reliever Jorge Tavarez' first pitch into right and Sixers' RF Brendon Sanger was unable to corral it as it went for a two-run game winner.

The series continues at Lancaster on Wednesday at 6:35 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
