COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Dubuque Fighting Saints associate head coach JB Bittner was named an assistant coach of Team USA at the upcoming World Junior A Challenge in December. Bittner will be on the coaching staff along with the head coach of the team, Jay Varady, head coach of the Sioux City Musketeers, and assistant Chris Hartsburg, head coach of the Lincoln Stars.
"I'm ecstatic to have an opportunity to work with this team. I have so much respect for USA Hockey and the USHL so I'm very grateful to be a small part of this team," Bittner said. "I get a chance to coach really good players, and work with really good people, while trying to win a medal for our country."
The World Junior A Challenge, of which Team USA took the bronze medal a year ago, and has medaled in nine of the ten years of the tournament's existence, will be held in Bonnyville, Alberta between December 11 and 17. Rosters for the event will be named at a later date.
"We are truly excited for JB," said head coach and general manager of the Fighting Saints, Jason Lammers. "He is an excellent coach and excellent person that is a great addition to the WJAC staff. His infectious passion for the game and desire to develop players is evident on a daily basis."
Bittner, in his first season with the Fighting Saints, brings a bevy of experience to the coaching staff, including coaching at the collegiate, USHL, and minor pro ranks. He also enjoyed a career that took him to the AHL level over the course of four seasons.
