FORT MYERS, Fla. - Fort Myers starter Tyler Jay dominated the St. Lucie Mets in a 4-0 win for the Miracle on Tuesday at Hammond Stadium.

Jay gave up just two singles and one walk over eight innings whiling striking out a career-high 11. Champ Stuart led off the game with a single but Jay erased that hit by inducing a double play.

Tomas Nido started the fifth with a single but Jay recovered to strike out the side. Jay struck out the final two batters he faced in the eighth.

Yorman Landa got a game-ending 6-4-3 double play off the bat of Stuart to cap the two-hit shutout.

The Miracle scored three of their four runs with two outs in the first inning. Josh Prevost walked two in the frame and Edgar Corcino brought both runners in with a two-out triple. Chris Paul followed with a RBI infield single.

Prevost recovered from the 34-pitch first inning and pitched into the seventh. Trey Vavra hit a comebacker up the middle to start the seventh that struck Prevost in the side of the head. The ball bounced over to Luis Guillorme at second and he completed the play to get the out. Prevost popped up and exited the game under his own power.

Prevost tossed his third consecutive quality start. He limited the Miracle to three runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings.

The Mets offense continued to struggle. The Mets have only scored in two of their last 36 innings. Both times Kevin Taylor hit a two-run homer.

The Mets have lost five in a row. Before the losing streak they were one game up in first place in the FSL South. Now the Mets are 0.5 games out of last place. They are still only three back of first place Bradenton.

Next Up: The Mets (25-26, 5th) and Miracle (26-26, 4th) play game 2 of their series at Hammond Stadium on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m.
