Jaxx add former first rounder, David Espinosa to roster

RALEIGH, NC. (JUNE 10, 2009) - The Seattle Mariners and West Tenn Diamond Jaxx announce the following roster moves. INF Ogui Diaz has been sent to Low-A Clinton of the Midwest League. Also, the Mariners have signed INF/OF David Espinosa to a Minor League Player Contract and assigned to the Diamond Jaxx roster.

Diaz played in nine games with the Diamond Jaxx. He hit .185 (5x27) with no homeruns and three RBI's. Diax began the season with Low-A Clinton and hit .230 with 1HR and 9RBI. He was promoted on May 31st. In his first game with the Jaxx, Diaz went 2-for-3 with an RBI against Mississppi on May 31st.

David Espinosa joins the Diamond Jaxx after spending the first part of 2009 with the independent American Associations Grand Prarie Air Hogs. Espinosa lead the league in runs scored (24), and was second in on-base percentage (.471), and third in stolen bases (10). He represents the fourth Grand Prairie AirHogs player to be acquired by a Major League team in only the second year of the team's existence. The Air Hogs are managed by former Major Leaguer, Pete Incaviglia.

An original first round draft pick by the Cincinnati Reds (23th overall) in 2000, the Miami, FL native has played in affiliated ball as recently as 2007 with the Detroit Tigers' Triple-A Toledo MudHens. Espinosa was born in Caracas, Venezuela on December 16, 1981. He went to high school in Coral Gables, Florida at Gulliver Prep. In 2001, Espinosa was rated as the 5th best prospect in the Cincinnati organization according to Baseball America, and 90th best prospect in all of Major League Baseball. He has a career Minor League average of .260, with 68 homeruns and 338 RBI's.
