PORTLAND, August, 1, 2007 - The New Westminster Salmonbellies fell just short last season in their quest for the Mann Cup. After a successful regular season, the Salmonbellies are poised to bring home the championship this season. The Salmonbellies (15-2-1) finished atop the league standings in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) and are now awaiting the upcoming Mann Cup Playoffs that will crown a champion in September.

The WLA and Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) are two subdivisions of the Canadian Lacrosse Association (CLA). The WLA and MSL compete independently until the winner of each playoff group is pinned against each other for the seven-game Mann Cup National Championships held from September 7-15.

The brother tandem of Richard and Peter Morgan have been doing their part to help the Salmonbellies move closer to the title. Richard has notched four goals and seven assists. Peter is tied for 20th in the WLA with 50 points on the season.

Jax goalie Dallas Eliuk has been enjoying a fine summer playing for the third place Coquitlam Adanacs. Eliuk is second in the league with a goals-against-average of 9.42 and is 3-1-1 overall. His teammate, Jax defenseman Ray Guze, has added a goal and two assists in nine games of action.

Graham Palmer started the summer with the Adanacs and was traded to the fourth place Maple Ridge Burrards. In nine games with the Burrards, Palmer has four goals and two assists.

Jax backup goalie Matt King is 5-4 with a GAA of 10.67 for the fifth place Nanaimo Timberman. Defenseman Scott Mazuran continues to practice with the Langley Thunder.

In the MSL, forward Matt Holman is seventh on the Barrie Lakeshores on the team with 22 points.

Brodie Merrill, Jed Prossner, Ryan Powell and DJ Driscoll are also playing this summer in Major League Lacrosse.
