Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND, Nov. 7, 2006 - The LumberJax signed goalie Matt King, 25, to his second consecutive one year contract, guaranteeing the netminder's return to the Jax for another year. King becomes the 21st player to join Portland for the 2007 season which begins on Dec. 30, 2006 vs. Buffalo at 7 p.m. in the Rose Garden.

Clocking 297 minutes in goal last year with the Jax, King averaged a 76.9 save percentage while stopping 183 shots and only allowing 55 through the regular season. During the Jax first-ever playoff appearance he saved two shots on goal and did not allow a goal for the night.

"Matt is one of the best young goalies in the game today," commented Head Coach and General Manager Derek Keenan. "With Matt teaming up with Dallas Eliuk we feel that we have the best goaltending tandem in the [National Lacrosse League]. Matt learned a lot last year under Eliuk's tutelage and developed a similar athletic style in goal. We expect Matt to continue his development this season."

The Victoria, BC native entered the NLL with the Calgary Roughnecks as the 29th overall pick (third round) in the 2001 Entry Draft. He registered 1,251 minutes in the net, saving 790 shots on goal during three seasons with the Roughnecks before being traded to the Anaheim Storm for the 2005 season. Despite being a young goaltender, King's statistics speak for themselves. The 6-foot, 190-pound goalie saved 1,136 shots on goal and has averaged a 72.17 save percentage throughout his five year career.

King joins the extensive list of LumberJax players signed for the 2007 season. The team and participants invited will travel to Vancouver, BC on Nov. 17 for one of their three weekend training camps.
