Buffalo Destroyers News Release

(BUFFALO, NY) –Buffalo Destroyers WR/DB Jason Waters was signed to the Atlanta Falcons practice squad on Wednesday. Waters went to training camp with the Carolina Panthers but was cut prior to the regular season.

Waters was awarded to Buffalo off waivers from the Grand Rapids Rampage on July 16. He was on the Destroyers 24-man roster for the remainder of the season but did not suit up for a game.

Waters played 11 games for the Rampage this season leading the team in pass defenses with 18, good for eleventh in the league. He was also the Rampage' s second leading tackler with 40.5 stops despite beginning the year as an offensive specialist. He had a career high six pass defenses May 25 vs. Buffalo. He led the Rampage with six tackles week 13 at New York.

"We are excited that Jason has the opportunity to go to the NFL," said Destroyers director of player personnel and fullback/linebacker coach Rudy Klawiter. "This is a great opportunity for him.

Waters will be used as a wide receiver with the Falcons.

Waters is the third Destroyers player to sign with another league in the last year. OL/DL Jerry Crafts is currently playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. WR/DB Reggie Allen signed with the Buffalo Bills last August. Waters will be put on the Destroyers exempt list and Buffalo retains the AFL rights to all three players.
