Chicago Rush News Release

October 31, 2002 – "Rush to Read," the award-winning reading incentive program launched by the Chicago Rush and the Chicago Public Schools earlier this year, is set to return for the 2002-2003 academic year with a new, expanded format.

The program, which rewarded CPS eighth-graders with complimentary tickets to Rush games, has been expanded to include sixth, seventh and eighth graders from across Chicagoland.

"The ‘Rush to Read' program was a fantastic success in its first year," said Rush senior vice president/general manager Mike Polisky. "For Year Two we have extended the program to include students in the suburbs as well as the city. Our goal is to promote the joy and importance of reading to as many youngsters as possible.

Beginning November 1, and running through February 28, 2003, more than 30,000 students from more than 100 schools in 38 school districts from Brookfield to Wheeling will have the opportunity to earn tickets to 2003 Rush regular season home games by doing some extra reading.

During the program's four months, students will be asked to read an extra book and write a corresponding book report each month. Any student who reads four books and writes four reports before March 1, 2003, will receive a coupon good for complimentary tickets to any 2003 Rush regular season home game.

In addition, Rush coaches, players and staff will visit selected schools and speak to students about the importance of reading.

"We are looking forward to the program's return," said Beverly Coleman, reading specialist at Oliver S. Westcott Elementary School in Chicago. "The students and staff enjoyed the program and really wanted it to come back this year.

The Rush finished its 2002 season with a 10-6 overall record and advanced to the AFL semifinals. Chicago kicks off its 2003 AFL season Sunday, February 2, at Allstate Arena against the Orlando Predators. Fans wishing to purchase season tickets, starting at $64, should call the Rush at (877) Rush-Tix (787-4849) or visit the team's Web site at www.chicagorush.com.
