Jason Lane Powers Zephyrs to 4-1 Win

Metairie, LA – New Orleans pinch-hitter Jason Lane hit a two-run homerun to power the Zephyrs to a 4-1 victory against Colorado Springs Monday in front of 4,755 at Zephyr Field.

Lane's blast to left broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning. The Zephyrs improved to 7-1 in games in which they homer at home.

The game was delay one hour and 39 minutes for rain with the Sky Sox leading 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth. After the teams were able to resume New Orleans scored four unanswered runs.

Zephyr reliever Mike Gallo (3-0), who pitched to three batters prior to the rain delay, returned after the break to pick up the win. Gallo allowed no runs and two hits in two innings of relief. Kirk Bullinger then allowed two hits in two innings to pick up his team-leading ninth save.

Rodrigo Rosario started on the mound for the second consecutive game. Rosario lasted just 1.1 innings before a rain delay Sunday. Monday, Rosario allowed one run on five hits in five innings.

Brian Smith (0-3) took the loss for the Sky Sox (39-33). Smith allowed three runs on three hits and walked two in an inning of relief. Colorado Springs starter Denny Stark threw five shutout innings before being replaced after the rain delay.

The Zephyrs (40-31) tied the game in the sixth. Henri Stanley led off with a single. After Vic Darensbourg retired the next two hitters, Royce Huffman sent a single into center to score Stanley.

New Orleans then put the game away the next inning. Kyle Logan led off with a double to set the table for Lane. Two outs later, Stanley walked on scored when Raul Chavez hit a double that fell near the left-field wall.

The Sky Sox hit consecutive one-out singles in the ninth but failed to score.

Colorado Springs scored its run in the fifth. Mandy Romero led off with a single and Ben Petrick followed with a double. Choo Freeman then blooped a single that fell in front of center-fielder Colin Porter and allowed Romero to score.

The game ends the Zephyrs nine-game home-stand. New Orleans will travel to Portland, Ore., to take on the Beavers Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs calling the action. The Zephyrs return to Zephyr Field on June 26 when they take on Albuquerque at 7:05 p.m.
