Jarrett Grube Named North Division All-Star Starter

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (JUNE 9, 2011 - The Southern League released today the starting lineup for the Southern League North All-Star team. North Division Manager and Generals skipper Jim Pankovits named RHP Jarrett Grube the starting pitcher for the North squad. Grube is 4-1, with a 3.57 ERA in 11 starts covering 68 innings. He has struck out a team high 52 and walked just 16. Jake Shaffer will lead off and play left field and Kyle Seager will bat second and play second base for the North team. JACKSON GENERALS RECAP: - Anthony Vasquez and Steve Delabar combined to shutout the Tennessee Smokies, 1-0 Wednesday at Smokies Park, giving the Generals the series 3-2. The Smokies were shutout for just the second time this season. Jackson, now 4-1 in rubber games of a series and with the victory are just one game back of the Smokies in the division, with 10 games to play in the first half. The Smokies out-hit the Generals 8-3, but were 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The tables were turned from the night before, when Jackson was blanked 6-0. The three-hit output ties for the lowest this season. Anthony Vasquez (4-4) allowed eight hits in 7.1 shutout innings. He struck out three and walked none. Vasquez has given up just four earned runs in his last three starts (23.1 innings). Steve Delabar notched his fifth save with a scoreless 1.2 innings. Kyle Seager was 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Scott Savastano had the Generals only RBI.

TODAY'S STARTER: RHP Erasmo Ramirez makes his 12th start of the season. On Tuesday, Ramirez was named to the Southern League All-Star team. Ramirez is tied for 2nd in the SL, with 6 wins on the season. He has gone 7+ in each of his last 2 starts.

LOTS OF STARS: The Generals will have 7 representatives on the North Divison All-Star team on June 21st at Pringles Park. Pitchers Andrew Carraway, Jarrett Grube, Kenn Kasparek, Bobby LaFromboise and Erasmo Ramirez were joined by second baseman Kyle Seager and outfielder Jake Shaffer.

GRUBE NAMED ALL-STAR STARTER: Today, North Division Manager and Generals skipper Jim Pankovits named Jarrett Grube the starting pitchers. Also, Jake Shaffer will lead off at play left field. Kyle Seager will bat second and play second base.

RACE TO THE FINISH: The Generals end the first half with 10 games against the North Division (at Huntsville, vs. Carolina). The Generals after taking 3 of 5 from the Smokies trail Tennessee by just 1 game. Jackson has played 45 games against the South Division (24-21), as opposed to 15 games against their own division, the North (12-3). Jackson will play 88 of their 140 games against the South Division.

GENERALS AT "THE JOE": The Generals begin there first and only series at Joe Davis Stadium this season against the Stars. Jackson swept a 5-game series against Huntsville at Pringles Park May 14-18.

CLOSE CALLS: The Generals have played 21 1-run games this season and are 11-10 in those games. Jackson has also played 9 extra inning games this season and are 5-4 in those tilts.
