Jaroslav Pavelka Named Player of the Week

(Windsor) The Windsor Spitfires announced today that for the second week in a row goaltender Jaroslav Pavelka has been named the Tecumseh & South Walkerville Vision Centres Player of the Week. Pavelka was outstanding between the pipes Sunday afternoon against a hungry Soo team who is among a handful of teams in which the Spitfires are battling with for a playoff spot. In this game Jaroslav was named the "˜1st Star' for turning away 32 shots and making several spectacular stops. Pavelka's performance propelled the Spits to their 21st win of the season and first set of back to back wins since December 9th 2011.

This was exactly the response the coaching staff was looking for after a less than stellar effort against the Guelph Storm on Thursday night; a game in which Pavelka was "˜left out to dry' on multiple occasions in an ugly first period showing. The bounce-back performance by Pavelka on Sunday afternoon has not only impressed Spitfire coaches but has shown his ability to overcome adversity and remain reliable and steady in the Windsor goal.
