Japanese player in Fayetteville Guard training camp

Fayetteville, NC --- The Fayetteville Guard has gone international! Taniguchi Masakuni (Masa) joined The Fayetteville Guard for its inaugural training camp. He gave it all he had with for the first thee days of camp at The Fayetteville Guard training facility .

"When I went to the website I feel it's very good as a team" Masa Said. "I want definitely to come back."

Masa, a linebacker from Kyoto Japan, is a senior at Ritsumeikan. He has played college ball in Japan, Australia and club ball at Duke University. Masa has participated in spring camp for the University of British Columbia and played semi-pro in Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Hawaii and Illinois.

"When I was a high school a student from the University of British Columbia came to university of Japan for a centennial celebration football game and it was then that I felt challenged to play football overseas," Masa said.

Although some professional recruiting has occurred in Japan, football is still considered a minor league sport. Masa will return to Japan to begin training for a career on the freight railways.

"We are honored by Masa's presence and encouraged by his enthusiasm for the game," said Head Coach Terry Smith. "We hate to see him go, and will benefit greatly from the experience."

The Fayetteville Guard, of the National Indoor Football Team will play seven homes games at the Crown Coliseum. The season will kick off April 2 with tailgating and family entertainment.
