Hawgs to give away free funeral at May 23 game
March 9, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Daytona Beach Hawgs News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. â The Daytona Beach Hawgs have a promotion that's to die for. The National Indoor Football League team will offer fans a chance to win a free funeral -- including a burial plot - when they bury the Kissimmee Kreatures on Monday, May 23 at the Ocean Center.
Yes, we're dead serious. That's also the last pun we're going to use. Really.
The funeral is being provided by Lohman Funeral Homes, whose owner, Lowell Lohman, has become one of the Hawgs' most ardent supporters and has helped the expansion team develop in its first months of operation.
"I've been in this business long enough, so I've heard all the jokes,'' said Lohman, whose company owns five funeral homes and three cemeteries in the Daytona Beach area. "I'm excited about having a football team in Daytona Beach and hope this helps generate some more interest."
Several minor league baseball teams have conducted similar promotions, with the Hagerstown Suns of the South Atlantic League garnering the promotion of the year by ESPN.
Puns aside, the will be a tastefully done promotion, with the planning of a future funeral or a funeral for a loved one done with the utmost respect by the Lohman staff.
Fans attending the May 23 game will have the opportunity to register to win. You must be present -- and alive -- to win.
