Augusta Lynx News Release

After finishing second in the ECHL's scoring race last year behind former NHL Rookie of the Year Scott Gomez, Jamie Johnson earned himself an invitation to the Dallas Stars' 2005 Prospect Camp currently being held in Frisco, Texas along with 31 other players.

Johnson, who finished his sophomore season of pro hockey with a Lynx-leading 80 points on 22 goals and 58 assists, will have a chance to display his skills to the Dallas organization all week long, culminating with a scrimmage between the prospects this Saturday.

"It just goes to show what this level is all about," said Lynx head coach Bob Ferguson. "Jamie has earned the opportunity to move up, especially after the year he had last season."

Even former Columbia Inferno head coach Scott White is excited to see Johnson in camp. White, now an assistant coach with the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League, was quoted in the Des Moines Register this week regarding his former rival.

"I know Jamie's game very well, I saw it enough," White said. "I'd love to have him with us because of his ability to score."

Indeed, it was Johnson who buried an overtime game winner over the shoulder of Inferno goaltender Chris Minard that touched off an Augusta celebration much to White's dismay on March 5th, 2005 in Columbia. One of five game-winners for Johnson that season, it may have been the most exciting moment of the year for the Lynx, who finished just out of the playoffs.

"We wish Jamie the best of luck," said Ferguson. "He's definitely justified his chance at the AHL."
