Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in the playoffs for the 15th time in 17 American Hockey League seasons, announced that center Jamie Arniel has been signed to an Amateur Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 29 players on their roster, including 16 forwards, nine defensemen and four goaltenders.
Arniel, 19, recently finished his fourth junior season in the Ontario Hockey League, registering offensive career-highs with 68 points, 32 goals and 36 assists in 63 games for the Sarnia Sting. Arniel's season came to an end on March 28 after scoring one goal and adding two assists in a five-game (4-1) series loss to the Plymouth Whalers in the opening round of the OHL playoffs. The native of Kington, Ontario, recorded 19 multiple-point games this season, along with six point-streaks of at least three games, the longest stretch lasting 15 games (11g, 10a) from mid-December into late-January.
Arniel was selected by the Boston Bruins 97th overall in round four of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft. In four seasons between Sarnia and the Guelph Storm, Arniel collected 196 points (101g, 95a) in 252 regular season games, plus 13 points (7g, 6a) in 33 playoff contests.
The 2008-09 Calder Cup Playoffs continue with Game 2 of the Atlantic Division Finals against the Worcester Sharks on Wednesday at the DCU Center at 7:05 p.m. Providence is next home in Rhode Island for Game 3 of the series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
