HARTFORD, May 5, 2009: The Hartford Wolf Pack Community Foundation, Inc., at its spring meeting March 4, approved grant applications totaling $7,500. The funds went to three different organizations, the Connecticut Chasers hockey team, St. Augustine School and Natchaug Hospital Journey Home Residential Treatment Center.
The Connecticut Chasers are an organization that provides an opportunity to learn to skate and play hockey to people who have a developmental disability and are not able to play on a regular hockey team. The Chasers received $3,000 from the Wolf Pack Community Foundation, to help cover the costs of participating in the 15th Annual Special Hockey International Ice Hockey Tournament in Toronto, Ontario.
St. Augustine School, an elementary school located at 20 Clifford St. in Hartford, received a grant of $3,000. Those funds are being used to help renovate the locker room/changing facilities of the school gymnasium, which not only services the school population, but also provides low-cost Gymnastics programs to the surrounding community.
The Wolf Pack Community Foundation made a $1,500 grant to Natchaug Hospital, which is located in Mansfield, CT and is Eastern Connecticut's primary provider of psychiatric treatment for children, adolescents and adults. The grant funds will be utilized to implement community-based activities and a recreation program for the hospital's Journey House residential treatment program for adolescent girls.
The stated mission of the Hartford Wolf Pack Community Foundation is to help fund charitable and non-profit endeavors that offer support to inner-city youth, amateur sport, and promote the health, education and well being of Connecticut's children.
Throughout its 12-year history, the Wolf Pack has generated over $1.2 million in monetary funds for various community entities.
