Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades could do no wrong on Thursday night as they defeated the Jamestown Jammers, 10-1, at Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park.
All the Renegades did was pound out 15 hits, score 10 runs and play nearly ï¬âawless defense to send the Jammers (16-11) to their ï¬Ârst loss of the home stand and allow Mahoning Valley to tie the purple and green atop the Pinckney Division standings.
Despite the loss, Brent Keys extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a pair of singles on his birthday. Rand Smith also collected two hits, and Ryan Adams extended his hitting streak to seven games with a double.
It was the duo of Smith and Keys that got Jammers on the board in the ï¬Ârst inning. Smith led off with a single and advanced to second on a ground out. Keys moved him over to third with a base hit of his own, and the center ï¬Âelder proceeded to swipe second base. The throw got away from the shortstop and allowed Smith to score Jamestown's only run.
Hudson Valley would come right back with four runs in the top of the second inning. A pair of singles and a Raymond Church double accounted for the ï¬Ârst run before Chris Winder belted a three-run homer to left ï¬Âeld to put the game out of reach.
Both starting pitchers would settle down from there as Parker Markel allowed just one more hit after the ï¬Ârst inning for Hudson Valley, and Jamestown's Jose Urena would retire 12 straight batters before being lifted in the sixth inning.
In the seventh inning, the Renegades pushed across another four runs due to a pair of singles, a double, triple and a throwing error. The team then plated two more insurance runs in the ninth inning on a passed ball and wild pitch after loading up the bases.
Urena took the loss for the Jammers to fall to 2-2 despite dominating the Renegades except for the brief blip in the second. He fanned three and gave up four runs in 5.2 innings.
Markel earned his second win for Hudson Valley. He allowed just three hits and walked one with three strikeouts in ï¬Âve innings. Winder led the offense with the double and home run, while Tanner Biagini contributed three singles. Four other Renegades ï¬Ânished with multiple hits.
The two teams will meet for the series rubber match Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
