Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers dropped their second straight game on Thursday night, falling 9-6 to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Eastwood Field.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick start. After Chad Wright drew a walk to lead off the game, Eugenio Suarez followed with an RBI triple. Jason King then walked to put runners at the corners for Dean Green. Green smashed a three-run homer to right-center field, his second bomb of the season, to give Connecticut a 4-0 lead after a half inning of play.
However, the Scrappers came back with three runs in the bottom of the first to cut the Tigers lead to one. The Tigers would get a run back in the fourth to go on top 5-3, before Mahoning Valley would pour it on.
The Scrappers got a solo homer from Alex Lavisky in the fourth to make it a 5-4 game and broke the game open with five runs on four hits in the sixth inning. The big hits in the frame were a two-run single by Todd Hankins and a two-run double from Cody Elliott.
Drew Gagnier, who started the sixth inning and gave up three runs, while only recording one out, suffered his second loss of the year. Nate Striz, who pitched four two-hit innings of relief for the Scrappers, earned his second win of the season.
The Tigers will play the finale of the three-game series against the Scrappers tomorrow tonight. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
