Jammers drop a tough one to the Elmira Pioneers 4-2. The Pioneers used a late game surge by scoring all 4 of its runs in the 9th inning to take the lead and secure the win. The Pioneers improve to 3-1 on the season as the Jammers drop to 2-2.
The Jammers got a dominant performance from their starting pitcher, Christian Young (Niagara County Community College) as he kept the Pioneers offense in check by allowing 0 runs on 4 hits and striking out 10 over 7 innings of work. The Pioneers starter Houston Roth (Ole Miss) also had a solid performance by going 5 innings allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 6.
The Jammers got on the board in the bottom of the 4th by scoring a run on 2 hits in the frame. The inning was started by Christ Conley (Canisius) who lead the inning off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Chris Estrada (UTSA). The Jammers added another run in the 5th to go up 2-0 with a single by Casey Vincent (St. Bonaventure) and eventually coming around to score on a sac fly by Christ Conley (Canisius).
The score would stay 2-0 until the top of the 9th as the Pioneers were able to rally for 4 runs, with the biggest hit of the night coming from Brett Vosik (Kansas) that smoked a double in the left centerfield gap that scored 2 to tie the game. The Pioneers were not done as 2 straight walks loaded the bases with 1 out, Anthony Nucerino (UCONN) grounded to short and the Jammers tried to turn two, but an errant throw from the shortstop got passed the first baseman and two more runs scored to make it 4-2 Pioneers.
The Jammers went down in order in the bottom of the 9thas the Pioneers took home the victory. The Jammers led for 25 outs but were unable to close it out as the Pioneers late rally was enough to prevail and win the game.
-Notable player for the Jammers was Collin Stack who went 2-2 with 2 walks on the night.
