Jacksonville Slam News Release

The Jacksonville Jam (10-3) won its 10TH victory of the season on Friday night in Orlando vs. the Orlando Aces (1-5). It was the Jam's 3RD consecutive victory of the season vs. the Aces and it was a hard fought victory for the Southeast Division leading Jam.

Orlando came out determined to defeat Jacksonville, who had previously defeated Orlando in two very close games in Jacksonville and Orlando. The Aces as well were coming off its first victory of the season vs. the Miami Tropics earlier in the week, where they came back from 12 points down in the fourth quarter to defeat Miami by 9 points 109-100 on the Miami Tropics home court.

Early on, the Aces had the Jam reeling and back on their heels as they used a small and quick lineup to set a faced paced tempo. Jacksonville had no answers early on as the Aces led most of the first quarter and were up 28-26 at the end of the first period. Jacksonville came back in the second quarter and the lead exchanged hands several times, but Orlando spurted ahead on a 7-0 run to end the second quarter and led at half-time 59-54. Jerome Stamper scored 18 first half points for Orlando.

In the third quarter the Jacksonville Jam made another push that saw them cut into the Aces lead. Donald Harris led a furious comeback by the Jam by scoring 12 points in the quarter, but the Aces held on to a 2 point lead to end the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Jam were paced by Trey Moore, Jerry Williams, Anthony Lumpkin, Mario Brown, Mike McCowan, DeRon Rutledge, and Harris as they took control of the game and went up by as many as 7 points 117-110 with just over two minutes to play in the game, but Orlando would not quit and cut the Jam lead to 4 points twice in the last minute of play. Key free-throws by Moore and Lumpkin sealed the victory for Jacksonville.

Jacksonville was led on the night in scoring by Harris' 29 points. Moore and Williams followed up with 28 points each. Lumpkin chipped in 10 points and had 8 assist for the game. Rookie Center, Mario Brown had a banner night with 8 points and a game high 16 rebounds. DeRon Rutledge came off the bench in the second half to add 8 points and 6 rebounds. Rutledge has been sidelined with a badly sprained ankle over the last two weeks, but is showing signs of getting back to full strength. Orlando was led by Jerome Stamper's 26 points. Renaldo Norman followed up with 21 points for the Aces.

The Jam will travel back to South Florida on Monday to once again take on the Palm Beach Imperials (2-5). The Imperials home court is located at the Florida Atlantic University Arena on the FAU campus. Tip-off time is scheduled for 7:05PM Monday night.
