LONG BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 6, 2005) â On Super Bowl Sunday, the Long Beach Jam (13-10) of the American Basketball Association (ABA) sacked the Orange County Buzz, (9-4) 132-122, in front of a crowd of 1,856 at the Pyramid in Long Beach.
Jack Hartman scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had four steals in the win. Former Jammer Maurice Spillers led the Buzz with 20 points.
By outscoring the Buzz by 11 in the second quarter, the Jam jumped to a 66-53 halftime lead. Yuta Tabuse paced the Jam with 13 points, seven assists and three rebounds in the first half. Tabuse finished the game with 15 points, 12 assists and five rebounds. The Jam increased the lead to 17 at the end of the third quarter, 97-80.
Fred Vinson scored 11 first-quarter points en route to a game high 25 for the Jam, helping the team to an early 35-33 lead after 12 minutes of play.
Today was Long Beach Middle School Day at the Pyramid. Before the Jam-Buzz game, Hamilton took on Lindbergh (Boys), Powell played Franklin (Boys), Tincher took on Rogers (Girls) and Powell played Hamilton (girls). Lindbergh, Hamilton, Powell, Tincher, Jefferson and Hoover Middle Schools will performed dance and cheer routines during halftime.
The Jam's next home game is Sunday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. against the Ontario Warriors at the Pyramid.
