LONG BEACH, Calif. â The Long Beach Jam (6-1) of the American Basketball Association (ABA) went on a 12-2 run to edge the Portland Reign (2-3), 114-107, at the Pyramid in Long Beach on Friday night. A Ramel Curry bucket with 4:32 in the game culminated the comeback for the Jam.
Curry notched team-highs with 21 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Ben Adams and Maurice Spillers each added 20 points in the win. The Reign's Leroy Herd scored a game-high 27 points, including 6-12 from three-point land, and James Lang grabbed 13 rebounds in defeat.
The Jam's newest player, Kazuyuki Nakagawa, scored five points along with four rebounds in his first action with the team. Nakagawa follows in the footsteps of fellow countryman, Yuta Tabuse, as floor general for the Jam. Tabuse, a member of last season's ABA Championship team, is now a member of the Phoenix Suns.
All season long, celebrities and members of the media will suit up with the Jam for one game, donning the No. 11. Tonight, Power 106's Street Reporter Joe Grande joined the Jam. Grande can be heard on "Big Boy's Neighborhood" from 5 â 10 a.m., Monday â Friday on 105.9 FM.
The Jam play the Reign again on Sunday at the Pyramid at 2 p.m.
