LA Stars add a "Star" to the Coaching Staff
Los Angeles, CA - Los Angeles Stars Head Coach/General Manager Burrel Lee announced to that he has added WNBA All-star of the Los Angeles Sparks and Olympic Gold Medalist Delisha Milton-Jones to his coaching staff. Milton-Jones a graduated of the University of Florida in 1997 has won 2 WNBA Titles, 1 Euro Title, 1 World Championship, 2 Olympic Gold Medals and also won the Western Conference with the Portland Power of the ABL a few years ago. She was the fourth selection in the first round of the 1999 WNBA Draft.
Delisha who is married to Stars back-up Point Guard Roland Jones, first met Lee about 5yrs ago when Lee was the Mascot for Sparks. "It is funny when I look back to how I met the two of them, I was running around the Great Western Forum dressed as a 6'5 Golden Retriever and one day asked Roland if he would like to play ball on my Adult team & from there here we are" say Stars Coach Burrel Lee.
"I think I may wanna coach when my playing career is over and Burrel is giving me this chance to get my feet wet as his assistant" Milton-Jones said. Milton-Jones who is 6'1 and has the wingspan of a 7-footer. "I know with Delisha on my bench and Cedric Ceballos on the court, I have an NBA Vet and a WNBA Vet both helping my younger players out, showing them what it takes to be a pro no matter what the sex is," say Lee. "The post players are lucky that Dee is coming off an injury and right now is rehabbing, or I would suit her up and let her play against them, trust me I have played many times against her, you would be happy to have her on your team."
Milton-Jones will make her coaching debut on the bench this Sunday, December 12th, 2004 when the Stars take on the visiting Tijuana Dragons at 4:00pm at Cleveland High School, 8140 Vanalden Ave, Reseda, CA 91335.
Tickets are $10.00 General Admission and will go on sale at the door at 2:30pm.
Also Cedric Ceballos, Kareem Abdul-JabbarJr., the rest of the Stars will be signing autographs after the game on Sunday.
