Jacksonville Slam News Release

Jacksonville, FL. The ABA Jacksonville Jam got off to a very slow start at home vs their arch rival Miami Tropics on Friday night on their homecourt at UNF Arena. Miami led by as many as 9 points in the opening quarter 21-12. But the Jam battled back to cut the Tropics lead to just 6, 27-21 to end the first period.

In the second quarter, Jacksonville got control of the game and went up by as many as 7 points themselves, as Jerry Williams, Trey Moore and Anthony Lumpkin led the way for the Jam. The Jam went in at half-time up 49-44!

The third quarter was a back and forth affair as both teams made runs. Jax came out early in the third and went up by 10, but Miami got hot led by guard Marcus Barnes whose three point shooting put the Tropics up by 3 with under 2 minutes to play in the third. Moore's three-pointer with a little over a minute to play in the period tied the socre at 64 and the Jam were able to regain the lead 68-66 headed into the 4th quarter.

The fourth quarter was controlled by Jacksonville as the Jam outscored the Tropics 32-20 to complete the Jam's second win of the season over Miami. The Tropics are the only team to have defeated the Jam thus far this season. The Jam got excellent play from Williams, Moore, Lumpkin, DeRon Rutledge, Donald Harris, Jeremy File, Tony Holley and TheAnthony Haymon down the stretch to clinch the important win for Jacksonville.

Moore led the scoring with 27, Rutledge had 21 and pulled down 14 rebounds in another double-double by the talented forward. Williams also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
