Bellingham Slam News Release

ELK GROVE, Calif. - The road-weary Bellingham Slam dropped their second game in a row in dramatic fashion, as they were upset by the Fresno/Sacramento Heatwave, 109-107, at Cosumnes River College in Elk Grove, Calif. on Friday night.

Having just arrived in town an hour before game time, the Slam started off sluggish and quickly found themselves down 10 points to the hot-shooting Heatwave. But the Slam regrouped and were able to rally to tie the game, at 54-54, going into halftime.

The second half turned out the be a back-and-forth battle, with 17 lead changes at all, and neither team holding more than a six point advantage.

The Heatwave found themselves up by two points, at 107-105, following a Derek Foster 3-D play with 52 seconds to go. But Jared Stevenson hit two free throws on the next possession to tie the game, before Mark Maxwell was able to sink a pair of foul shots for the Heatwave with 20 seconds left to re-establish a two-point lead. The Slam had three chances to tie the game in the dying seconds, missing on an initial runner and two tips before time expired.

Jacob Stevenson and Mike Parker led the Slam with 34 and 33 points, respectively. The loss for the Slam was the team's first to Fresno in the team's history and also their first divisional loss this season.

The Slam look to salvage their final game of the road trip as they travel to Azusa, Calif. to take on the Beijing Olympians on Saturday at 7 p.m.
