Tri-City Americans News Release
Kennewick, WA - The Chicago Blackhawks announced they have assigned Tri-City Americans forward Jalen Luypen to their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. Luypen was drafted 216th overall by the Blackhawks in the 2021 NHL Draft and signed a three-year, entry-level contract on August 2, 2022.
Luypen, from Kelowna, B.C., was acquired from the Edmonton Oil Kings on August 9 but didn't make his Americans debut until December 17 after recovering from off-season surgery. Once returning to game action Luypen became a key cog in the Americans offence with 39 points (18-21-39) in 38 games. Six of his 18 goals in 2022-23 were game winners. Luypen then added six points (3-3-6) in six playoff games against the Prince George Cougars.
Originally drafted 180th overall by the Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2017 WHL Prospects Draft, Luypen finished his WHL career with 163 points (79-84-163) in 238 career games. He won a WHL championship with the Oil Kings in 2021-22.
The Rockford IceHogs currently sit fifth in the AHL's Central Division with a record of 33-27-5-4. They have three games left in their regular season schedule, starting this Friday against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
