Philadelphia Union II News Release

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Goalkeeper Jake McGuire has been named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 22, after helping Bethlehem Steel FC to a victory against Charlotte while keeping the match tight against in-state rival Pittsburgh.

McGuire becomes the first goalkeeper in Steel FC history to collect multiple appearances on the United Soccer League's weekly honors with his previous appearance coming in Week 8 of the 2017 season.

McGuire began the week with his second consecutive shutout, making four saves on the road at the Independence. The 23-year-old followed up the performance with a five-save start against the Riverhounds in a match that the visitors outshot Steel FC by a 19-4 margin.

In just his second year with the side, McGuire is the club's all-time leader in nearly every goalkeeping statistic. The Chino Hills, California, native owns has picked up 16 wins and made 137 saves in 39 appearances over that time.

With McGuire's accolade, Steel FC continues to gain recognition from the league having picked up nine appearances on the USL Team of the Week this season. McGuire becomes the third member in club history with multiple weekly honors, joining Santi Moar (three times) and Chris Nanco (twice). In 2018 the following players have picked up USL Team of the Week Honors: McGuire, Olivier Mbaizo (Week 21), Brenden Aaronson (Week 20), Drew Skundrich (Week 16), Nanco (Week 15), Derrick Jones (Week 14), Fabian Herbers (Week 10), Brandon Allen (Week 1) and Moar (Week 8 and 12).

Bethlehem Steel FC returns to league action with a neutral site clash against Toronto FC II on Thursday, August 12. The match will be played in Rochester, New York, with kick off from Marina Auto Stadium slated for 7 p.m. which will be broadcast on ESPN+.
