
Jacobo and Perez homer in 6-3 win

August 18, 2009 - Gabe Jacobo and Darwin Perez both hit two run homers in the sixth inning to send the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 6-3 victory over the Clinton LumberKings at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton on Tuesday night. Both Jacobo and Perez finished the game 2-4 with a double and while it was Jacobo's 8th HR of the year, it was the first for Perez.
Kernels starter Buddy Boshers (3-1) picked up the win, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five over five innings. Christian Scholl, Vladimir Veras and Andrew Taylor combined for four scoreless innings of relief, giving up one hit and striking out eight with Taylor notching his sixth save. Clinton starter Kenn Kasparek (10-6) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out seven over 5.2 innings.
The Kernels had ten hits in the game as Tyson Auer was 2-5 with a stolen base (37) and Robert Lopez was 1-4 with a double. Matt Crawford, Nolan Brannon and Alexi Amarista all had singles. Jake Shaffer was 2-5 with a double for Clinton as Ian Bladergroen, Nate Tenbrink and Scott Savastano each had an RBI.
The Kernels have their first off day in 28 games on Wednesday and then head to Wisconsin for a four game series with the Timber Rattlers starting Thursday at 7:05 pm from Appleton, WI.
