TODAY'S GAME: Today the Generals play their 140th and final game of the 2011 season against the Jacksonville Suns, looking to win the final series of the season. A win today would give the Generals a 36-36 record in games away from Pringles Park.

JACKSON GENERALS RECAP: - The Generals won their second straight game over the Suns Sunday night at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, 5-2, tying the series, forcing the rubber match on Monday. The Generals and Suns 2:05 CDT meeting on Monday is the final game of the 2011 season. Steven Hensley (4-8) tossed a season high 7 1/3 innings and allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits to earn the win. Hensley struck out three and walked one. Daniel Cooper pitched 1 1/3 out of the bullpen to earn his first Double-A save. Suns reliever Wade Korpi (0-2) took the loss. Vinnie Catricala picked up a single in his final at-bat going 1-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to nine straight games. Francisco Martinez homered and scored two runs, finishing 2-for-5. Gabriel Noriega was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Southern League All-Star Luke Montz was 2-for-4 with a double and home run for the Suns.

TODAY'S STARTER: RHP Yoervis Medina makes his 4th Double-A start today for the Generals. "El Caballo" is coming off his longest outing, 7 innings last Tuesday against Huntsville in a no decision. Medina allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in the outing. The Puerto Cabello, Venezuela native is currently on the Mariners 40-man roster.

CATRICALA EXTENDS HIT STREAK TO NINE IN FINAL AT-BAT: Vinnie Catricala has hit safely in his last 9 games, batting .387 (12x31) with 10 runs scored, 6 home runs and 11 RBI. Catricala has combined to bat .350 (181x517) with 97 runs scored, 77 XBH (2B -48, 3B - 4, HR - 25) and 106 RBI in 131 games split between High Desert and Jackson. Among full-season minor leaguers he ranks 3rd in hits and doubles, 2nd in XBH, 4th in batting average, T8th in RBI.

ONE LAST CHECK ON FORMER GENERAL, SEAGER: Kyle Seager is batting .373 (22x59) for the Seattle Mariners with 10 runs, 7 doubles, 2 home runs and 5 RBI over his last 16 games. Kyle, in 26 games in his second stint with the Mariners (since 8/2) is batting .315 (29x92) to raise his season batting average from .136 to .283. Seager hit .136 (3x22) in 7 games w/ Seattle July 7-21

MORAN EXTENDS SCORELESS STREAK TO 18.1 INNINGS: Brian Moran extended his scoreless inning streak to 18.1 innings over his last 12 relief appearances. During this stretch he limited opponents to a .175 average (11x58), while walking 6 and striking out 22. Brian is 3-1 with a 1.53 ERA in 25 appearances in the 2nd half as opposed to a 2-2 mark, with a 8.51 ERA in 19 appearances.

FOUR GENERALS HEADING TO THE AFL: Four current Jackson Generals will be heading to the heralded Arizona Fall League this October. RHP Steven Hensley, LHP Brian Moran, INF Nick Franklin and OF Chih-Hsien Chiang join former Generals catcher Adam Moore along with Mariners 2011 1st Round pick (#3 overall) LHP Danny Hultzen and RHP Forrest Snow. The Peoria Javelinas are made of minor league players from the Brewers, Cardinals, Mets, Mariners and Padres organizations. The Arizona Fall League begins its 20th season on Tuesday, October 4th.

BASEBALL GROUNDS, IT'S BEEN A WHILE: It has been 507 days since the Jackson franchise last played a series at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. On April 12th, 2010, the Diamond Jaxx fell to the Suns, 2-1. The lineup was: 2B Dustin Ackley, SS Carlos Triunfel, RF Carlos Peguero, DH Mike Wilson, C Guillermo Quiroz, 3B Alex Liddi, LF Joe Dunigan, 1B Leury Bonilla, CF Kuo Hui Lo and starting pitcher RHP Michael Pineda. None of which are on the current 24-man active roster. Pineda and Ackley are key parts of the Seattle Mariners 2011 team.

TODAY IN BASEBALL HISTORY: 1998 - Mark McGwire became only the third player to reach sixty home runs, as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-0. He joined Babe Ruth and Roger Maris with sixty homers in a single season.
