Jacks Sweep Playoff-Hungry Bees in 3-2 SO Win

ODESSA, TX - Coming into Staurday night, the Jackalopes found themselves in a unique situation. With a win, the Jacks would win back-to-back games for the first time in the season. The went into battle without the services of Dakoda Menslage and captain Matt Beranek, who were suspended from action due to fighting majors the night before.

The Jacks would strike first for the second straight night when Hampus Sjodahl banged home a rebound off a Zach Zech attempt, giving the Jackalopes the all-important first goal of the contest at 3:01. The Bees were gifted multiple power plays and cashed in on two of four in the period, to take a 2-1 lead after one period. The Jackalopes outshot Rio Grande Valley 10-9 in the first period.

Trailing 2-1 in the second, it was the Bees who would strike at 6:40 on a hard wrist shot by Dallas Gerads into the top right corner over Tanner Creel (UCONN). With the Bees up by two, the Jacks responded like champions, netting two goals in the final 10 minutes from Hampus Sjodahl and Zach Zech to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the third.

The Jackalopes dominated the final frame, only to have all bids shut down by Killer Bees goaltender Nick Schmit. The Jackalopes outshot Rio Grande Valley 12-6 in the third, but were heading to a 5:00 overtime period tied at 3-3.

In the wide open four-on-four situation, both teams fired three shots at the opponents respective nets. Neither netminder yielded a goal, bringing on a shootout at the JackShack.

With the first two shooters shut down for both teams, Andreas Soje was given the call by head coach Greg Gatto. Soje cashed in on a shot over the glove hand of Nick Schmit. Tanner Creel stopped all five Killer Bees shooters en route to a 4-3 Jackalopes win at the Ector County Coliseum in front of 1,458 fans.
