Keystone Ice Miners News Release
FLINT, MI - Alex Berardinelli scored twice and added an assist as the Michigan Warriors evened up the season series with the Keystone Ice Miners and beat them at Perani Arena for the first time this season. With Springfield idle, the Ice Miners magic number did not change and remains at three.
The Warriors broke a scoreless tie at 12:03 of the 2nd period when Berardinelli found Tyler Groat streaking to the net and Groat buried his team leading 19th goal of the season to put the Warriors up 1-0. Just 2:23 later, the Ice Miners got even when Taylor Fernandez netted a powerplay goal for the second consecutive game, with assists from Jon Hall and Austin Romzek. The game was tied at one through two periods.
In the third, the tide turned when Berardinelli scored a shorthanded goal, breaking free from the neutral zone and moving in on a backhand to beat Alex Blankenburg. Less than three minutes later, he scored at even strength to make it a 3-1 game. Andrew Green, Mitch Wedding, and Tyler Groat all picked up assists in the span. After a few fights broke out, Vito Aluia was able to close the gap back to one goal as he backhanded a shot in the slot past Ryan Wischow. Jacob Coleman and Kelly O'Brien added helpers. The Ice Miners took a too-many-men bench minor with just 2:05 left, killing any chances to get the game tied.
Wischow beat Keystone for the first time this season, making 39 saves. Blankenburg lost to Michigan for the third time. The two teams play again on Saturday night at 7:00 PM at Perani Arena. The game can be seen on FASTHockey.com, with the AWAY feed carrying the Ice Miners broadcast.
