Jacks Lose Second Straight To New Mexico, 4-1
February 12, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Odessa Jackalopes News Release
RIO RANCHO, NM - In the ninth game of the two teams' regular season series, the Odessa Jackalopes fell to the New Mexico Mustangs 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM. With the loss, the Jackalopes fell to 17-24-5 overall this season and with 39 points, remain alone in fifth place in the South Division standings, six points shy of the Corpus Christi IceRays for the South Division's fourth and final playoff spot.
For the third consecutive night, the Mustangs got out to a 2-0 lead, this time thanks to back-to-back second period goals from Charles Baldwin and Dallas Crum. Just like in Saturday's game, the Jacks pulled to within a goal early in the third, when Tyler Poulsen created a turnover at 3:48 and buried his tenth goal of the season, an unassisted shorthanded marker, but the comeback was short-lived as Adam Chapie extended the New Mexico lead at 9:12 of the third and a final-minute Evan Johnston empty-net goal sealed it for the Mustangs.
Jackalopes' netminder Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31 of the 35 shots he faced and the Jacks were held scoreless on three power-play chances. Next up for Odessa, it's a February 24th home clash with the Corpus Christi IceRays with the opening faceoff set for 7:05 pm.
The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-7825 or by visiting the Jacks online at www.jackalopes.org.
